Our DICE team of Emma, Aine, David and Sean were given the task of creating a gamified concept in order to raise awareness about online addiction, and ways in which it can be reduced.

As a group, our primary focus was to think of a very clear way of how to get our message across, while making it as memorable as possible. We wanted to be creative, however at the same time we wanted to avoid going over the top. Creating a simple but effective way of trying to help people to understand what online addiction is and how to reduce it was our focus.

We felt as though we were challenged by the concept of creating an online-based concept to convey the message of reducing online addiction, but we were ready to tackle our task with purpose. We all agreed that creating a complex, content heavy gamified concept would be quite contradicting, as we did not want our users to have to spend a long time online in order to gain the knowledge that we want them to, but we knew that we could work together as a team to create a strong message in a simplistic fashion.

The world of social media and the internet may feel inescapable, however that doesn’t mean it should be something that takes away really important aspects of our lives.
People are too worried about documenting their lives rather than really enjoying and experiences events, as well as missing out on chances to have insightful, meaningful conversations with people who are close to them due to their online usage. As a group, we wanted to highlight issues such as these and raise awareness about the topic of online addiction.
